Kerala Style Prawns Curry

Every Seafood enthusiast’s heaven, Kerala Style Prawns curry is a dish filled with aromatic flavours and deliciousness.

Ingredients

  1. 350gms Large Prawns [cleaned and deveined]
  2. Turmeric
  3. 6-7tsp Coriander seeds
  4. 6-7 Dry red chillies
  5. 1tsp Methi seeds
  6. ½ Coconut grated
  7. 6 cloves of Garlic
  8. 2 inch Ginger
  9. 1 medium Onion
  10. 2 green chillies
  11. Coconut Oil
  12. Curry leaves
  13. Salt
  14. Tamarind water
  15. Small onions [Shallots] chopped

Method

Step 1
Take 350gms of clean and deveined prawns. Add ½ tbsp Turmeric and ½ tbsp salt, marinate well then keep aside

Step 2
For the coconut masala roast, in a kadai add the coriander seeds, dry chillies, methi seeds and allow it to brown for a bit. Then add the grated coconut to this spice mixture and allow it to roast and become dry. After it becomes brown, allow it to cool before blending it to paste. You can add ½ cup water while blending for making the paste.

Step 3
In a mixie add the garlic, ginger, medium onion, green chillies and coarsely grind it. Take a kadai and add 1 spoon coconut oil to it. Add curry leaves and the ginger garlic onion mixture. Sautee it till the raw smell goes away and then add the coconut masala paste to it.

Step 4
Add water [for gravy], turmeric and salt to taste for the curry and let the curry boil for a bit. Then add the tamarind water to it. Allow it all to mix and cook for some time.

Step 5
When the curry comes to boil add the prawns and allow it to become tender and cook [3-4minutes].

Step 6
For the final tadka, take 1 spoon coconut oil, chopped shallots and curry leaves. Allow them to caramelize and then add it on top of your Prawns Curry.
